Belmont Breaks Down the Stigma This Movember

Globally, every minute, a man dies by suicide. In Australia, 75% of annual suicides are men.

In a fight to end men dying too young, the Movember movement has grown to a global standard, inspiring support from over 5 million 'Mo Bros 'and 'Mo Sistas' to change the face of men's health.

On Tuesday November 27, 2018 Belmont Private Hospital visited the team at Stigma Cutz in support of Movember, the month-long celebration of the moustache to highlight men’s health issues specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

Located in East Brisbane, the newly established not-for-profit boutique barbershop offers a range of barber services with a twist. NO stigma, NO judgement, just fresh cuts, shaves  and good chats!

The team at Stigma Cutz have created a unique initiative within a safe, comfortable, judgement free zone where the stigma attached to men’s mental health and suicide no longer exists. This positive space allows men to feel more comfortable to speak up and start the conversation, either with their Mental Health First Aid Certified Barber, family member or friend.

Three of Belmont’s staff visited the barber shop for a freshen up and had the opportunity to connect with our local community members to start the conversation about men’s mental health.

In support of Movember, all proceeds from Belmont’s visit to Stigma Cutz have been donated to the ACFC Foundation.

Together, we can all help raise awareness to have an everlasting impact on the face on men’s health.
