Belmont Private Celebrates 60 Years of QLD Seniors Week

On Wednesday 19 August, Belmont Private Hospital hosted a breakfast presentation for Westfield Carindale's Seniors Walking Group

Queensland Seniors Week provides opportunities to promote positive community attitudes towards older people and ageing, facilitate community participation, and enhance community connections, aligning with the Queensland Government’s vision of building age-friendly communities in Queensland.

This year marks the 60th year of celebrating Queensland seniors, and sees our first virtual Queensland Seniors Week combining with in-person events across the state from Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 August 2020.

In celebration of the much anticipated week-long event, Belmont Private Hospital celebrated 60 years of QLD Seniors Week by providing the Carindale Seniors Walking Group with a breakfast presentation facilitated by our Psychiatrist Dr Catherine Benson who specialises in Older Persons Mental Health and Psychiatry Registrar, Dr Richard Goodwin.

Dr Benson and Dr Goodwin addressed the group and provided mindful tips and strategies surrounding mental health and well-being during COVID times. Topics covered included; coping with social isolation, loneliness, depression and anxiety and the importance of remaining physically and mentally well.

Despite the impacts of COVID-19, around 35 walkers were in attendance with feedback from the group being positive and uplifting.

Ageing can pose a number of difficulties that may impact your mental health.
