Dr Matta is a compassionate psychiatrist and psychotherapist known for her thoughtful, person-centred approach and genuine connection with patients. She has extensive experience in both public and private mental health settings and is committed to creating a safe, grounded therapeutic environment with clear, respectful boundaries.
Her clinical expertise includes working with individuals experiencing complex trauma, borderline personality disorder, and dissociative spectrum conditions. She also has particular experience in supporting health professionals. Dr Matta collaborates closely with multi-disciplinary teams and values the involvement of families or support people in the care and recovery process.
Dr Matta has a strong commitment to teaching, supervision, and learning. She is a Senior Lecturer with James Cook University and supervises trainee psychiatrists and colleagues. She engages in regular professional supervision and is an active member of a professional peer group. Her academic contributions include regular publications in peer-reviewed journals.
She completed her medical degree at the University of New South Wales in 2010, graduating with the highest marks in psychiatry and receiving the Neil McConaghy Prize. She undertook most of her psychiatric training in Melbourne, completing a Master of Psychiatry through the University of Melbourne, where she was awarded the Bruce Singh Prize for academic excellence. Dr Matta began her career in Townsville, working with rural, remote, and Indigenous communities, and was recognised with the RANZCP Maddison Medallion in 2018 and the Queensland Branch RANZCP Excellence in Supervision Award in 2019.
Dr Matta has a young daughter and brings both professional expertise and personal experience to her work. Navigating the demands of motherhood while maintaining a meaningful career has deepened her understanding of the pressures faced by many parents.
Dr Matta has a particular interest and clinical focus in perinatal mental health. At present, she is offering care exclusively through inpatient admissions to the Brisbane Centre for Postnatal Disorders, providing intensive psychiatric support in a structured therapeutic environment.
