Meet Dr Heidi Reichhold

Described by her patients as highly personable and patient-focused, Dr Reichhold brings extensive experience from the public mental health sector to her private practice.

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Dr Reichhold to learn more about her journey, her passion for psychiatry, and what patients and GPs can expect from her care.

 1. Can you share a bit about your training and achievements?

I was part of the academic subcommittee during my training and sought additional experience in forensics. I also juggled motherhood, having my baby during this time, and still managed to complete my training in five years.

2. What inspired you to become a Psychiatrist?

Mental health disorders can be some of the most painful experiences for patients, and they need as much support as possible. I first became fascinated with psychiatry during medical school in London, where I organised additional placements and later pursued it further as a resident medical officer. I find psychiatry both interesting and challenging, as we don’t rely on tests like other specialties but instead use our interviewing skills to understand and treat patients.

3. What are your special interests in psychiatry, and why?

I have many special interests, but I prefer treating a broad range of patients to keep my work varied and engaging. My focus is on adults, which is why I completed my adult psychiatry certificate.

4. Why did you choose Belmont Private Hospital for patient care?

I chose Belmont Private because of its therapy program, which allows my patients to access effective interventions that were often lacking in the public system. The hospital also offers a supportive environment and the opportunity to work across both inpatient and outpatient care.

5. What can patients expect from you?

Patients can expect me to be validating, non-judgemental, and supportive. I genuinely care about my patients and want to help them improve. Advocacy is also a key part of my approach to care.

6. How do you support GPs in managing their patients?

I aim to be a resource for GPs, supporting them in managing their patients and being readily available if they have any concerns or questions.

7. What do you enjoy doing when you're not caring for patients?

I spend most of my time looking after my two very young children. We’re an active family, and we love going on adventures together. We also enjoy travelling overseas frequently.

8. What excites you about the future of mental health in 2025?

I’m excited to start a new chapter in private practice. It gives me the autonomy to care for my patients in ways that truly meet their needs, which is something I’m passionate about.
