Professional background
Dr Renan Ennes Avila completed his medical degree at the University of Queensland and his specialist training in psychiatry at major tertiary hospitals in Brisbane. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) with years of experience working across a range of public mental health settings, including inpatient, community, older adults, child and adolescent, and consultation-liaison psychiatry. Dr Avila has also worked in Indigenous health settings and has a special interest in transcultural psychiatry.
He has extensive experience treating a wide range of mental health conditions, including mood disorders, psychoses, trauma, personality disorders, and anxiety disorders, including obsessive compulsive disorder. His approach is rooted in attentive listening and respect for each individual’s unique experience of suffering. Dr Avila provides both inpatient and outpatient services and works closely with GPs, families, and mental health professionals at Belmont.
His practice is informed by an interest in Lacanian psychoanalysis and a commitment to exploring how language shapes human experience.
