About DBT Follow Up Program

This program is a follow up program for patients who have previously completed the full 6-month DBT Program. The program serves as an extension of the skills learnt within DBT and is for patients who wish to focus more intensely on specific topics of interest while maintaining ongoing support for themselves. 

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • You have completed the 6-month DBT Day or Evening Program.
  • You would like to review and deepen your understanding on Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance, and Interpersonal Effectiveness skills.
  • You would like to learn about the Dialectical Dilemmas and develop an understanding about how they manifest in day-to-day functioning.
  • You are struggling with managing crises.
  • You are struggling with regulating your emotions.

What you will experience

Throughout this program you will participate in group sessions led by a qualified Allied Health Professional. Participants will be supported to learn practical skills in order to better accept who you are, build skills to regulate emotions and improve interpersonal relationships. You will practice applying skills throughout the program through homework and bring what you have learnt and experienced to each group for feedback and input.

Treatment objectives

Objective 1

Understanding Mindfulness - learn to be self-aware and in the present moment. Develop mindfulness skills to better respond to difficult situations.

Objective 2

Distress Tolerance – learn and develop skills to manage your emotions rather than using harmful behaviours when in emotional crisis.

Objective 3

Emotional Regulation – gain a better understanding of emotions and learn skills to recognise yours and have more control over them.

Objective 4

Interpersonal Effectiveness – learn key communication skills to strengthen current relationships and build new ones. You will learn to establish healthy boundaries while respecting your needs and the needs of others.

Patients interested in attending this program will need a referral to a Psychiatrist with admission rights to Belmont Private Hospital.

Who will find this program helpful?

This program may be useful for people diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, Complex Trauma, or who self-harm, have intense and unstable mood states as well as unstable relationships.

How much does it cost?

Patients are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund or choose to self-fund. We ask that patients confirm any applicable out-of-pocket excess or gap costs directly with Belmont Private Hospital. Private payment is also an option.

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

The program is run on a weekly basis all year round. Participants can attend one session a week on Mondays from 9:15am - 12:30pm. The program can be started any week of the year. Morning tea and lunch is provided.
