About Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Follow-Up Program

The ACT Follow-Up Program is a weekly group that runs throughout the year, for participants who have completed the 6-week ACT Day Program or Evening Program. Frequency of attendance is voluntary. The program serves to consolidate and generalise the skills and concepts learnt in the 6-week course. This includes applying core ACT principles to a wide range of target topics and difficulties and going into further depth on applying skills.
 

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • You have completed the 6-week ACT Day Program or Evening Program.
  • You would like to review and deepen your understanding on Acceptance, Defusion, Values, Committed Action, Self-as-Context and Present Moment Awareness.
  • You would like to generalise your ACT skills and understanding to specific problems and difficulties in your life.
  • You require ongoing practice to build psychological flexibility and unhook from your thoughts and emotions being in control of your life.
  • You would like to stay actively engaged in your intervention by having a group to discuss, reflect, and explore the ACT processes in.

What you will experience

Groups are facilitated by a qualified allied health professional. Each week covers a new topic and is explored through the lens of ACT. Sessions start with a review of participant's recent practice of skills. Session content includes education, discussion, multimedia learning, written and experiential activities. Goal setting is conducted at the end of each session and set for home practice. Participant discussion and interactions are encouraged.

Provide opportunity for participants to apply skills between sessions and bring experiences into session for reflection and problem solving.

How to get started

For your access to this program, you will require a valid referral from a psychiatrist with admission rights to Belmont Private Hospital. Referrals can be sent through to belmonttherapyprograms@aurorahealth.com.au. General enquires about this program can be made by calling 07 3398 0270.

Who will find this program helpful?

People who have completed one of our 6-week ACT programs and would like to continue to broaden and deepen their understanding and ability to apply ACT skills.

How much does it cost?

Participants are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund. Privately paying is also an option. We ask that patients confirm any applicable out-of-pocket excess or gap costs directly with Belmont Therapy Programs department or Belmont Private Hospital Front Office.

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

This program is run on a weekly schedule for 50 weeks of the year. Sessions are held on a Wednesday afternoon (12:45pm-4:00pm) or Friday morning (9:15am - 12:30pm). Participants can attend at their own frequency.
