About CBT for OCD Program

The CBT for OCD Program is an 8-week group program based on CBT principles applied specifically for managing OCD. The program aims for individuals to learn practical CBT-based skills and use this knowledge to guide, inspire, and motivate themselves to set goals and take action that enriches their life.
 

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • You struggle with intrusive thoughts, images or urges which cause anxiety or distress.
  • You experience symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or have been diagnosed with OCD.
  • You feel driven to perform repeated behaviours or rituals to reduce your anxiety.
  • You seem to be stuck in the way you feel and would love to learn how to get out of this cycle

What you will experience

Throughout this program you will participate in group sessions which typically have between 8-12 participants. The group will be led by 2 qualified allied health professionals who will support group participants to share lived experiences, and to learn practical skills and evidence-based strategies for managing OCD. At the end of each session, you will be encouraged to set a practise task which will be reviewed in the following session.

Treatment objectives

Objective 1

Understand OCD - Learn about the symptoms of OCD, CBT Model of OCD and the nature of intrusive thoughts.

Objective 2

Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) - Discuss principles of ERP, improve confidence and create an action plan to implement ERP practise

Objective 3

Committed Action - Use skills to build motivation and take action that enriches your life.

Objective 4

Shifting Perceptions - Learn how to challenge unhelpful beliefs to get you unstuck and moving towards your goals.

Objective 5

Relapse Prevention - Develop a staying well plan to manage lapses in OCD recovery.

In order to attend this program, participants will require a referral from a Psychiatrist with admission rights to Belmont Private Hospital.

Who will find this program helpful?

This program is developed for individuals who experience symptoms of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) or have been diagnosed with OCD.

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

Every Tuesday from 9:15am to 3:00pm, over eight weeks. Morning tea and lunch is provided.

How much does it cost?

Patients are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund. We ask that patients confirm any applicable out-of-pocket excess or gap costs directly with Belmont Private Hospital by calling 07 3398 0270.
