This 12-session program is run on Monday and Thursday evenings. It is based on the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or CBT) and is designed for
people who want to identify, understand and change unhelpful patterns of thinking which may be negatively affecting their day-to-day
lives. A range of practical skills will be explored to learn how to respond to unhelpful thoughts, beliefs, behaviours, and distressing
emotions.
Throughout this program you will participate in group sessions which usually have between 8-12 participants. The group will be lead by qualified allied health professionals who will support group participants to share lived experiences, and to learn practical skills and evidence-based strategies. CBT recognises that events from the past help shape the way people think and behave.
Understanding Thoughts and Beliefs - Learn about how your unhelpful thoughts and beliefs can contribute to how you feel and develop strategies to develop more balanced perceptions to get you through difficult situations.
Understanding and Managing Emotions- Learn how to respond to stressful emotions more effectively, as well as exploring the role of emotions.
Shifting Unhelpful Behaviours - Learn to identify and reduce maladaptive behaviours (e.g., rumination, avoidance, perfectionism, procrastination and self-defeating actions), and utilise structured problem solving and other practical strategies to manage stressful situations or issues.
Creating a Wellness Plan – develop your own individualised wellness plan to help you maintain well-being and reduce your vulnerability to uncomfortable emotions.
