About Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Mothers (CBTM) - Follow Up Program

The CBTM Follow-Up program is for graduates of the 6-week CBT for Mothers program.  The program extends and enhances skills and concepts already learnt by introducing advanced psychotherapy topics and skills. The aim is to prevent relapse by reducing the level of depression and anxiety in women by continuing to target symptoms and challenge distorted motherhood specific thoughts thus generally improving their day-to-day functioning. 

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • You have completed the 6-week Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Mothers (CBTM) program.
  • You would like to refresh skills learnt int he CBTM program.
  • You would like to extend your psychological understanding and skills.
  • You would like to a prevent relapse of your symptoms.

What you will experience

The CBTM Follow up program is conducted as group sessions lead by a qualified Allied Health Professional. Each week different topics are introduced that extends knowledge and skills to support continued psychological wellbeing and prevent relapse. You will experience the feeling of connection and normality by connecting with other new mothers who are also experiencing a perinatal mood disorder.

To access this program, we need a valid referral from a medical practitioner to a psychiatrist with admission rights to Belmont Private Hospital. Direct contact to the Brisbance Centre for Postnatal Disorders on 3398 0238 or 3258 5780.

Who will find this program helpful?

Women who are experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties through pregnancy or after the birth of their child - and who have completed the CBT for Mothers program.

How much does it cost?

Participants are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund. Privately paying is also an option.

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

The CBTM Follow up group in conducted every Wednesday morning throughout the year. As topics are standalone topics participants can attend any sessions.
