This program runs for 12 weeks (one full-day session per week). It aims to introduce the four modules of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT): Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness. The program aims to increase skilfulness for managing emotions and building more effective coping strategies and healthier relationships.
In Dealing with Distress, you will participate in group sessions lead by qualified Allied Health Professionals. You will be supported to learn practical skills to increase mindfulness; learn crisis survival skills to tolerate stress and distress; understand and regulate emotions and improve interpersonal effectiveness. You will practice applying skills both within the session and between-sessions.
Understanding Mindfulness – learn to be self-aware and in the present moment.
Distress Tolerance – learn and develop skills to manage your emotions rather than using harmful behaviours when in emotional crisis.
Emotional Regulation – gain a better understanding of emotions and learn skills to recognise them and respond effectively.
Interpersonal Effectiveness – learn key communication skills to strengthen current relationships and build new ones. You will learn to establish healthy boundaries while respecting your needs and the needs of others.
