About Managing Social Anxiety and Building Social Skills for Young Adults Program

This eight-week program runs on Tuesdays and is designed for Young Adults between the ages of 16 and 25 years old. The program is designed to assist with managing challenges associated with Social Anxiety as well as improving Social Skills. The program utilises primarily Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based intervention strategies to provide practical skills for practice during the eight weeks and beyond.
 

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • You find yourself avoiding social situations due to fear.
  • You are a Young Adult between the ages of 16 and 25 and you experience anxiety in social situations.
  • You feel that you lack social skills or confidence in social situations.
  • You find it difficult to enter new or unfamiliar social situations.
  • Anxiety or lack of social skills is making it difficult for you to pursue your goals.

What you will experience

In the Managing Social Anxiety and Building Social Skills for Young Adults program, you can expect to spend four weeks on CBT-based skills for reducing anxiety, then four weeks on building skilfulness and confidence in social situations. The group will be faciliated by Allied Health Professionals. Part of the intervention will include engaging with other group members with similar concerns and practicing skills within the safety of the group.

For you to access this program, we need a valid referral from a medical practitioner to a psychiatrist with admission rights to Belmont Private Hospital. General enquiries about this program can be made by calling 07 3398 0270.

Who will find this program helpful?

People who are struggling with depression, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed by their stress and emotions. This program will also benefit people who are finding it difficult to cope with life demands, such as work, study, relationships, or caring for others.

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

This program runs all year round and is conducted on 2 evenings per week over 6 weeks. Participants must attend both sessions a week on Mondays and Thursdays from 17:45pm - 21:00pm. Dinner and light refreshments are provided.

How much does it cost?

Patients are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund or choose to self-fund. We ask that patients confirm any applicable out-of-pocket excess or gap costs directly with Belmont Private Hospital. Private payment is also an option.
