About Project Art

Project art is a 12-week program suitable for Individuals who may enjoy creative expression and would like to improve their confidence using a variety of art materials. Mindful and expressive processes are used to connect to self individually and as a group. This program may be useful in addressing their individual clinical needs. 

This program may be suitable for you if:

  • If you find talk-based therapies difficult and hard to focus.
  • Are curious about creative processes and alternative therapies.
  • You are feeling stressed and overwhelmed with many thoughts moving through your mind.
  • You haven't explored creative processes before and are interested in expanding your creative self.
  • You feel disconnected with yourself and often feel low in mood.

Program content

Creative processes are used to access your creative self. Reflective processes and discussions are a part of the program provide a space to connect and reflect on oneself and lived experience. Group members are guided though individual and group lead directives using expressive art making, poetry, mindfulness, sensory, eco art and experimental processes. Each week offers a different creative process such as drawing, painting, mosaics, collage, nature, clay, texture and layering to explore and experience. Group tasks support the creative community whilst providing opportunities for connection and interpersonal skills. 

What you will experience

Each week the group is guided through different art processes and techniques. Participants are encouraged to explore, experiment & share their discoveries in an open studio environment. Personal exploration through a range of materials supports confidence in making art & creative expression. Participants may develop a creative identity & experience the therapeutic benefits of making art as a tool for personal development & social connection.

Who will find this program helpful?

People who are experiencing mental health challenges and are curious about creative processes to support emotional regulation, connection to self and expand reflective abstract thinking.

When does this treatment start, and how long does it take?

This treatment is designed to be completed within 12 weeks. Participants attend sessions every Thursday from 9:15am to 3:00pm. Morning tea and lunch is provided.

How much does it cost?

Patients are admitted as a day patient and as such, can claim their attendance via their health fund. Privately paying is also an option. We ask that patients confirm any applicable out-of-pocket excess or gap costs directly with Belmont Private Hospital by calling 07 9877 6788.
