Professional background

Dr Julanne Frater is a Consultant Psychiatrist and Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, with advanced training in Consultation–Liaison Psychiatry and a subspecialty focus in Neuropsychiatry. She has worked extensively in tertiary hospitals, including within neurology, epilepsy and general medical services, as well as in perinatal and adolescent mental health services.

Dr Frater has a particular interest in neuropsychiatry, including Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), epilepsy, other neurological conditions, and the psychiatric care of patients with co-occurring medical conditions.   In addition to her hospital-based work, Dr Frater provides private outpatient care, including assessment and management of ADHD, Autism, and general adult psychiatric conditions.

She is experienced in supporting individuals during pregnancy and the postnatal period, including medication planning and mental health care during this time. Dr Frater is committed to providing practical, individualised care that is collaborative and tailored to each patient’s needs. She works with individuals aged 16 years and older.

Dr Frater originally trained and worked as a veterinarian prior to studying medicine, bringing a unique breadth of clinical experience and a strong biopsychosocial perspective to her practice.
