Dr Shama Kanodia is a consultant psychiatrist at Belmont Private Hospital.

Dr Kanodia is a perinatal and general psychiatrist with over 25 years of postgraduate experience. She holds general and specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and has extensive experience in mental health across both the public and private sectors in Queensland.

Dr Kanodia has a special interest in women’s mental health. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). She has also completed an Advanced Training Certificate in Adult Psychiatry.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Kanodia has a strong interest in medical education. Her clinical interests include perinatal mental health conditions, perimenopausal disorders, depression, psychosis, bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder, generalised anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Dr Kanodia is trained in electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), and is accredited to provide esketamine treatment.

Her practice offers a supportive, non-judgmental environment to help patients understand their experiences and work towards lasting change. She provides individualised, evidence-based psychiatric care tailored to each person’s mental health journey.

Dr Kanodia works closely with referring general practitioners, obstetricians, psychologists and allied health professionals to ensure coordinated care as per patient’s needs.
