Belmont Private welcomes new Young Adult Mental Health Unit Director, Dr David Hartman

Dr David Hartman MBBS, MRCPsych(UK), FRANZCP is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Adolescent and Young Adult Mental Health (ages 14 to 21), Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Complex PTSD, Personality Disorders and Psychodynamic psychotherapy.

Dr Hartman joins Belmont Private Hospital as the Director of the Young Adult Unit. Prior to moving to Australia in 2003, Dr Hartman trained and worked in South Africa and London. In Australia he has worked extensively in public health, and was Clinical Director for Child Adolescent and Young Adult Mental Health Services, Townsville from 2008 until 2014.

He has extensive experience in the public mental health system including Child and Youth Mental Health, Adolescent Forensic Mental Health, Adolescent Intensive Outreach (AMYOS), Adolescent In-patient Unit, and Early Psychosis Intervention. He was in private practice at the Townsville Private Clinic from 2015 to 2021.

He is a past Associate Professor at James Cook University and continues to be involved in the supervision, teaching and training junior Psychiatrists and other mental health professionals, particularly psychotherapy supervision. He has been published in peer reviewed journals on topics including adolescent violence, adolescent self-harm, eating disorders, and family therapy. He is also an accredited member of the RANZCP faculties of Psychotherapy and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr Hartman provides holistic mental health care including psychotherapy, working with families and medication management. Dr Hartman accepts referrals for ages 14-21 for outpatient and day program treatment and ages 17-21 for inpatient admissions.
