Dr David Hartman MBBS, MRCPsych(UK), FRANZCP is a Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in Child, Adolescent and Young Adult Mental Health (ages 8 to 25), Mood Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Complex PTSD, Psychodynamic psychotherapy, Personality Disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders.
He is an accredited member of the RANZCP facilities of Psychotherapy and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. He has a particular interest in working with teenagers and young people with severe mental health problems associated with suicidal behaviour, deliberate self harm, psychosis or violence.
He has extensive experience in the public mental health system including Child and Youth Mental Health, Adolescent Forensic Mental Health, Adolescent Intensive Outreach (AMYOS), Adolescent In-patient Unit, and Early Psychosis Intervention.
Prior to moving to Australia in 2003, Dr Hartman studied and worked in South Africa and London. Since living in Australia he has worked extensively in public health, and was Clinical Director for Child Adolescent and Young Adult Mental Health Services, Townsville from 2008 until 2014.
Dr Hartman continues to work part time for Child and Youth Mental Health in Queensland Health. He was a past Associate Professor at James Cook University and continues to be involved in the supervision, teaching and training of medical students, junior Psychiatrist sand other mental health professionals, particularly psychotherapy supervision. He has been published in peer reviewed journals on topics including adolescent violence, adolescent self harm, eating disorders, and family therapy.
Dr Hartman provides holistic mental health care including psychotherapy, working with families and medication management, and offers an up-to-date knowledge base for new patients.
