Dr James Barton is a consultant psychiatrist and fellow of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP). He provides general adult psychiatric outpatient care in his consulting suites. He is also a psychogeriatrician having completed advanced training in old age psychiatry and has a special interest in older persons with neurocognitive and mood disorders. Most recently he has worked at Currumbin Clinic and developed an interest in addictive disorders, especially those related to alcohol use.

Born and raised in Brisbane, Dr Barton completed a Bachelor of Medical Science in 2012 and Doctor of Medicine in 2016, both at Griffith University. He is an accredited training supervisor for the RANZCP Fellowship Program and maintains an active interest in teaching registrars and medical students.

Dr Barton has extensive experience in both public and private sector psychiatry. He has worked in several different states across Australia and enjoys travel more broadly as a way of understanding different cultures and backgrounds. He enjoys psychiatry because it is at the intersection of brain and mind, nature, and nurture.
